USCIS is opening a new asylum office on August 2, 2021. This will be the eleventh asylum office in the nation, and the second in Florida. Florida currently leads the country in asylum applications, with more than 25% of the nations affirmative asylum applications filed by applicants living in Florida.
The new Tampa Asylum Office will adjudicate asylum claims filed by persons living in western and northern Florida, including parts of central Florida. The Miami Asylum Office will continue deciding cases for applicants residing in south Florida and sections of central Florida. Interviews by the Tampa Asylum Office are temporarily being conducted at 5524 West Cypress Street, Suite B, while we wait for a permanent building to become operational, which is expected to occur in the Spring of 2022.
