When does the order go into effect?

The order goes into effect April 23, 2020 at 11:59 pm and is effective for 60 days, although it may be modified at any time. 

What does the order do?

Temporarily suspends new immigration into the U.S. for certain categories of people who are not already in the U.S.

Who does the order apply to?

Persons applying for immigrant visas.

Who is NOT included in the order?

  1. Persons who are adjusting status here in the U.S. (“green card” applicants)
  2. Spouses and children under 21 of U.S. citizens
  3. U.S. Military members, spouses, and children
  4. Medical professionals and scientists working on COVID-19
  5. EB-5 Investors and National Interest Visa applicants
  6. SI or SQ special immigrant categories
  7. Adoptees in the IR-4 or IH-4 categories
  8. Non-Immigrants, or people seeking to temporarily come to the U.S., such as B1/B2 visa holders
